A little like the beignet, these fritter pastries are one of our favorites- and you can share them with your friends and family (or not)! Sopaipillas are traditionally made with leavened wheat dough and shortening. They can vary differently from country to country, but every version is so yummy!

Tamales Photo by Ali Copyright Give Me Some Oven
This one is probably the most well-known of the Mexican foods on this list. Everyone’s heard of tamales, but not everybody has tried them. Tamales are a Mesoamerican staple made from dried corn husks, cornflour, oil, any stock of your choice, a sauce (salsa, mole, and enchilada sauce are popular), and is flavored with ground cumin. Steam and serve topped with salsa, avocado, sour cream, and chopped cilantro, and get ready to take the perfect bite! Remember- unwrap the dried corn husk before you eat your tamale. That’s not edible!
